In your new role, you will support the summer and winter pulse agronomy research project within DPI Agriculture, Northern Cropping Systems branch. You will provide technical assistance to the Research and Development Agronomist in research operations and management as well as assisting with the day to day running of projects, including the supervision of Technical Assistants and casual staff.

In 2016 a team of storytellers from Sydney Story Factory visited Wee Waa to run creative writing workshops with students at Wee Waa High School. Now they’re back, to celebrate the launch of State of Mind, a book of stories, memoirs and poems written by over 100 young people from across New South Wales.

On Thursday 12 October Dr Cath Keenan, co-founder and 2016 Australian of the Year Local Hero, and Richard Short, Sydney Story Factory Storyteller-in-Chief, are at Coonamble High to present copies of the book that their students helped write. 

After ten years opposition to Santos and Eastern Star Gas efforts to get coal seam gas projects approved, North West NSW farmers respond in alarm to ACCC suggestions that onshore gas should be rolled out in the Pilliga and across farmland. 

While supporting ACCC calls for coal seam gas exports to be curbed for domestic supply, farmers and communities who depend on safe reliable supplies of underground water will not accept any coal seam gas project that puts at risk this valuable resource. 

As extreme drought conditions are being experienced across major parts of NSW, farmers, graziers and rural communities are faced with the worrying prospect of how their water supply will hold up in these conditions.

The three big gas exporters - Shell, Santos and Origin - have signed an agreement to ease a forecast domestic gas shortage. But there are serious doubts about whether it will bring prices down.

It's with extreme excitement that Council can now announce that Fly Corporate will commence Sydney - Narrabri flights in September.

This announcement comes after a sustained and unrelenting effort by Council to secure flights to Sydney for Narrabri Shire and regional residents.

"A number of key staff and myself have been very active in regards to securing Sydney - Narrabri flights" stated Council's General Manager, Mr Stewart Todd.

A DATE has been set for Santos and People for the Plains to battle it out in court.

The two-day court case will by heard by the NSW Land and Environment Court on April 6 and April 8.

The local anti-coal seam gas (CSG) group will argue the approval for the gas company’s Leewood facility in the Pilliga forest is illegal.

Under NSW planning laws, CSG explorations works don’t need development consent.

Local Coonamble/Piliga, Ned Hannigan has been chosen in the 2016 squad to represent the Waratahs this season.

Last year he played in the under 20's side and toured OS with them. After watching many games with him in it at St Josephs College, Hunters Hill it's nice to see the hard work pay off.

A great career for an outstanding sportsman.

NED Hanigan is a star on the rise.

The Coonamble boy earned Australian Schoolboys selection in 2013, and last year represented Australia at the World Rugby 20s Championships in Italy, where he was named Australia's MVP.

Now his career has soared to new heights, with Hanigan elevated into the core training squad for the NSW Waratahs just before Christmas.

"I think it was a bit surreal," he said.

"Daryl (Gibson, Waratahs head coach) called me into his office and said 'you've been training well and we want to pull you on full-time'.
