Wee Waa farmer Sarah Ceisolka has voiced her support of the new Landholders’ Right to Refuse (Gas and Coal) Bill 2015 at a committee hearing in Tamworth last week, but says the legislation doesn’t go far enough.

The bill was introduced to parliament earlier this year by Greens Senator Larissa Waters and gives landholders, native title holders and local councils the right to say no to coal and gas developments.

Senators from each of the major political parties are currently touring the state to gather further evidence in favour of, or against, the new bill.

Hundreds motor to Rotary’s car and bike show

ABOVE: Wandering Walget Wildcats: Veronica Welsh (Wee Waa), John ‘The Beekeeper’ Brady (Gunnedah), Tallie Ward (Walgett), KB Baker (Walgett) and Fu Welsh (Wee Waa).

An estimated 300 people visited the Namoi Echo Museum in Wee Waa on Saturday to enjoy Rotary’s inaugural Cotton Country Car and Bike Show.

Glorious sunny conditions and an impressive display of 70 vehicles meant a steady stream of spectators flowed in throughout the show.

Wee Waa Rotary President Steve Windress said the committee was overwhelmed by the community’s response, with 40 motobikes and 35 cars entered for the very first show.

“Seventy entrants is quite good, we had support from a really wide area including Narrabri, Moree, Walgett and other surrounding towns,” Steve said.

Top 20 wacky NSW country towns, where oddball is everyday and ’out there’ is right here

So is your town listed in this article from the Daily Telegraph.  I think they need to update the images of the Burren Bore

IN THE bush, where the weather can be as dry as the humour, some towns are battling a downturn in the rural economy.

But the quintessentially Australian spirit of refusing to be cowed is alive and well.

In a bid to stand out from the rest, NSW towns are turning fortunes around with ingenuity, resourcefulness and just a hint of quirkiness.

Former Wee Waa St Joseph’s primary school students, twins Meghan and Alise Murie, have returned home to Warren for a mid year break from their busy life in the international fashion industry.

The identical twins grew up on Boolcarrol station, near Wee Waa, and are now confidently parading high fashions on the catwalk for some of the world’s top designers.

So far this year the girls have travelled to London, Paris and Milan to feature in fashion shows and magazine shoots.

They also plan to work with agencies in Japan and the US later this year.
