Disaster resilience and youth mentoring for OS

Disaster resilience and youth mentoring for OS

Echo Daily

Ocean Shores residents are set to benefit from a $40,000 grant as part of the NSW disaster resilient and future ready (DR:FR) Get Ready program.

Wee Waa and North Richmond were the other NSW communities that participated in the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) program.

The funding has been split between a program which aims to engage local youth, and another that will play a role in the disaster preparation process, including a map identifying local flood and bushfire risk areas and identifying important community information.

Byron Youth Service’s Ocean Shores Youth Response Team (OSYRT) say they will be using $25,000 of the grant to run five weeks of skills-building and awareness workshops for local youth.

This will include sessions from a local Indigenous facilitator, and aims to boost their morale and self-confidence and provide an opportunity to role model positive behaviours for younger students.

Roy's Round-Up 6 June 2020

Roy's Round-Up 6 June 2020

It’s been a big week in Parliament.

The Coal Seam Gas Moratorium Bill came on incredibly fast in the Legislative Assembly. Thank you for your public support of the position we took, it helps to show that Government members are out of touch with community sentiment.

The next opportunity to raise concerns is through the Independent Planning Commission process. I will be making a submission, advocating for the strongest possible protection of groundwater for the sake of communities and agriculture. I encourage you to do the same.

DRESS DETECTIVE Miss Fisher’s Wardrobe - Kate Strasdin

Monday 13 July, 2020

The phenomenal success of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries has a great deal to do with the aesthetic of the TV show – 1920s Melbourne and a glamourous protagonist! This lecture looks at the dress in the 1920s, the designers who were influencing the style and the developments that were changing the way people thought about clothes. It is also a look behind the scenes, creating Phryne Fisher’s world and the flapper style so synonymous with the decade. It was a period that began to embrace sportswear, leisurewear, shortened hems as well as outrageous parties. It also looks at menswear of the period and the changes that were beginning to take place within the masculine wardrobe.
