Fury as NSW CSG project gets state's tick

Fury as NSW CSG project gets state's tick

Environmental groups and some MPs have pleaded with an independent planning body to oppose a controversial coal seam gas project after it was recommended for approval by the NSW government.

The NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment on Friday recommended the Narrabri coal seam gas project be approved and referred it to the Independent Planning Commission for a final assessment.

Oil and gas giant Santos wants to develop the $3.6 billion project over 95,000 hectares in the Pilliga forest and nearby grazing land in the state's northwest.

It involves drilling 850 new gas wells over 20 years, with Santos saying it has the potential to satisfy up to half of NSW's natural gas demand.

Welcome to 2020 - it is certainly off to an unprecedented start, with communities across the length and breadth of the country dealing with fires, and others going into their eighth or ninth year of drought. Add to that relentless dust storms, and the odd flood event - there aren't many places experiencing a 'normal' season.

However, we have also seen Australia's generosity in response to the fires, with an outpouring of support . We have been overwhelmed with the way people want to help, both here in Australia and across the world

Comedians Mandy Nolan and Ellen Briggs are returning to the region for three free comedy shows in Wee Waa, Yetman & Bendemeer

from June 24-26. These are hosted by HealthWISE thanks to a grant from HNE

Irreverent pair Mandy Noland and Ellen Briggs are returning to the North West to give Wee Waa, Yetman and Bendemeer locals a taste of their down-to-earth comedy.
With seven children between them, the duo are not afraid to explore the ups and downs of domestic life, and have a collection of anecdotes about incidents labelled as ‘failures to parent’.
“We're 40 something mothers of teenagers, we're wives, and ex wives!” Mandy said.
“Ellen can wrangle a snake and operate a ride on mower in the afternoon, and by evening she dons heels and a frock and then she's the MC of a charity ball.”
Nothing is off the table in their act – from the beauty industry to menopause, weird TV shows, big undies, and the all-important issue of whose turn it is to unpack the dishwasher.
As ‘small town showgirls’, the pair have endless fun delivering their rapid fire routines on stage, and have a special connection to country audiences.
Hosted by HealthWISE thanks to a Hunter New England and Central Coast Primary Health Network (HNECC PHN) Empowering Our Communities grant, the duo will perform free shows in Wee Waa on June 24, Yetman on June 25 and Bendemeer on June 26.
